There’s More to Vegas Than Gambling |
If your idea of an excellent vacation is to frolic all night and gamble your cares away at the card or crap tables, then Las Vegas is an absolute desert paradise for you. But even if you aren't a gambling person, Las Vegas still has much to offer in the realm of recreation and entertainment.
Walk the famous Strip any time of day and your senses will be in awe of the many impressive sights and sounds that line this famous boulevard. The big hotel-casinos gleam and glisten 24 hours a day, inviting tourists and passers-by to sample their unique delights. For example, the Bellagio boasts of those impressive fountains that glide and sway in a choreographed dance set to music every 15 minutes. Living up to its name, The Flamingo provides a captivating showcase of real-life flamingoes and penguins. If you are fascinated with wild animals, then you will love the MGM Grand and its lion habitat where visitors can have an up-close and personal view of several lions. The Mirage has its own erupting volcano and a white tiger enclosure within the casino as well as a huge aquarium where you can view the dolphins for free.
Moving off the Strip, you can't miss the Las Vegas Hilton's offering of "Star Trek: The Experience," which includes two well-themed attractions with simulator rides & live actors in Trek costumes. There's also a Star Trek walk through museum and a "Quarks" bar. An hour's drive from Las Vegas will take you to the breathtaking Hoover Dam and driving down a little further leads to Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston, the local ski resort.
For those who love shows, there's the "Masquerade Show in the Sky" at the Rio, which is best described as a mix between Mardi Gras floats and the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, and the "Sirens of Treasure Island," a free adult-oriented show complete with showgirls and hunky pirates. Perhaps the best part about these particular shows is that you can enjoy them free of charge.
For a bigger and better picture of what Vegas has to offer - such as its Broadway-style productions, concerts, and other awesome venues such as the Blue Man Group, the Folies Bergere, Buck Wild and others - you might want to check out the many websites dedicated to this desert mecca. It's never too early to start planning that Vegas vacation.
